What does it mean when a data source requires consent?

When systems share personal identifiable information (PII), in certain cases, it is important to confirm that the individual has given permission for their data to be used. Once you collect consent, for example, through a checkbox or form, the transmission of this consent must happen between systems via API as a consentObtained: "true" flag.

When including a consent flag in the flow of information, businesses help ensure their systems are acting in alignment with privacy expectations and legal obligations.

In our case, sending consent through an API means that we included the field: 'consentObtained: true'. along with the data request. This indicates that the individual has provided consent and the system sending the data has flagged that this consent exists.

This flag plays a critical role on how Data Zoo responsibly handles data.

What's required:

Customers must confirm that they collected consent

Customers must include consentObtained: "true" in the API call.

Additional consent requirements

Some data sources have stricter requirements. In addition to the consent flag, they also need to validate the consent practices of the business that is capturing consent. This typically involves an onboarding process between the business and the data provider.
